v95 slow?

Not sure I'm following the other threads.  Compared to DOORS v9306, were there issues of more advanced versions being hopelessly slow, perhaps v94; when saving?  Did they fix it in some version, such as v9512?

Ping.  Nobody has experience with v95 being slow?  Just did some timing tests.  Dealing with invisible modules showed no difference, but opening a module Visibly took about 4x times longer!  Saving a module didn't take any longer.

Starting with DOORS 9.4 and going through to DOORS 9.5.2 (which was released in Dec 2013) which contains the fix, so here is the issue. IF you have Doors Web Access enabled then the DOORS 9.4 through DOORS 9.5.1 rich client saving times are ridiculously slow if you have made a lot of changes. I am talking what takes 2 minutes on DOORS 9.3 takes over an hour in DOORS 9.4. The actual setting has to do with dcn on the server, there is a dcnInfo command that tell you whether or not you have it enabled on the server. It's a much as far as being enabled if you are using DWA, if you are not using DWA you might not notice any slowness (perhaps your case Louie?).

So as of DOORS 9.5.2 if you update the server to this version AND the client supposetly the issue is gone when you also have DWA. I have not tried this yet, but I do know using a DOORS 9.3 client regardless of server version (i.e. DOORS 9.4 and DWA) the slowness is not there.

Woot, fixed in v9512.  Yes, we are using DWA.

Odd that previously someone complained that saving took far too long; I measured no decrease whatsoever; just module load times being 4x compared to v9306.

Confirmed the open times went back to "normal" when we changed from v9510 to v9512; almost identical to v9306.  I never experienced the excessive save times other folks experienced.

Thanks.

The issue with the saving is the dcnSettings parameter, when turned on (which I am told is a must if using DWA) that is when the excessive save/open times occur. Have you tried creating a new module and say generating 20000 new objects and setting some attributes on them, then click Save. In DOORS 9.3.0.6 client it takes maybe a minute or two tops, try doing this with 9.4 or 9.5.1 and you are looking at at least 20-30 minutes. Can you try this test and let me know how you fare with 9.5.2?

Tested with an existing huge module; edited it, added an object, and saved.  No save difference between any of the versions (35 secs or thereabouts).

The issue isn't with the module size however, I did the save thing as far as opening a huge module, editing and saving. This isn't where the slowness happens, the issue is saving thousands of changes in history at once. So back to my original suggestion, creating 20,000 objects and setting Object Text and Object Heading on each would be 60,000 history records at least. That's where the uglyness happens.

Aaaagh yes, History of course.  And it is fixed in v9512 yes?

Is this officially confirmed (kind of limitation?) from IBM that if you use DWA (dcn enabled) with your DOORS, then the performance will go down? I am using 9.5.2 client, 9.5.2 DWA and 9.5.1.2 server. I have a module with thousands of objects but no OLEs, no tables and no DXL . If I edit this module and try to save, it takes a very long time. Is this because of DWA or saving the changes in history??

I am not sure how open IBM is being about this issue, but I have an APAR open which confirms that supposetly once you get your DOORS server to 9.5.2 and the client then it's solved, I have not been able to confirm this. The issue is with dcn enabled (which is a must for DWA) this is an issue with DOORS 9.4 client and 9.5 client, in DOORS 9.3 this isn't an issue. Basically anytime a lot of changes need to be saved, nothing to do with OLEs the response time is horrendous. If you try DOORS 9.3 client in your setup I bet you will see dramatic improvements in saving time.

We have the same issue on DOORS 9.5.2.0 (both Client and Server).  Saving module with dcn disabled is 40 seconds but more than 8 minutes with dcn enabled which I can reproduce in all the DOORS servers installed in my office. IBM should look into this performance issue.

According to http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg1PM88224 this has been fixed when you "upgrade the Rational DOORS client and database server"to version 9.5.2 or later"

If you see the problem still after confirming you are on 9.5.2.x for both client and server, then raise a support PMR for further investigation

Before the known performance issue (APAR PM88224) was resolved, instead of being only 12 times slower, it was 55 times slower.

Which means DCN Enabled in 9.5.2 and later: The performance with DCN enabled will be about 12 time slower compare to DCN disabled.

I have PMR opened with IBM support but seems no plan to improve this "expected" 12 times slower performance issue.
